The Dovaa are an exceptionally intelligent draconic species. Capable of complex speech among themselves, they also possess the ability to communicate telepathically with other beings, seamlessly adapting to any language needed to convey their thoughts.
Nine Dovaa clans dwell across Aetherealm: Ysali, Ayrala, Kiandri, Firani, Peisio, Aiskala, Gaili, Aedaun, and Diabi—each bound to a distinct elemental affinity. Much of the world’s innate magic is believed to stem from these ancient beings, and many Aethereans credit the Dovaa with the very foundation of aetheric knowledge.
In the early days, the Dovaa lived in harmony—both with one another and with the other creatures of the land—serving as stewards of Aetherealm following its creation by Arcaenion. But that harmony fractured with the arrival of the Aethereans. Curious, ever-growing, and determined to build, these newcomers began to settle the land, unknowingly encroaching on sacred grounds where Dovaa once roamed freely; forced to adapt to this new way of life.
Now, many Dovaa guard their territories with fierce resolve, striking down trespassers without warning.
It was only through Aman’s intervention that a fragile truce was brokered: the dirt paths winding through Aetherealm would remain untouched by Dovaa and beast alike, granting Aethereans safe passage—so long as they respected the Wilds, the forests, and the mountains, which belonged solely to the creatures of the realm.
But not all honor this truce. And not all Dovaa are willing to forgive.
Collecting the souls of deceased Dovaa has, unfortunately, become a favored pastime among the more thrill-seeking circles of Aetherealm. Before the introduction of zil as a formal currency, these souls were the primary medium of trade—valued not just for their rarity, but for the power they carried. For an Aetherean, possessing many Dovaa souls was seen as a symbol of strength, luck, and influence. Amassing enough could instill fear in nearby Dovaa, who could sense the lingering magic of their fallen kin, while also earning admiration and respect among peers.
Each soul is roughly the size of a small apple—contained in a smooth glasslike bulb, the soul yet lingers—luminous and alive. They can be crushed easily in one’s hand, and when shattered, the user temporarily gains access to the magical essence of the Dovaa it once belonged to. Though powerful, the practice is controversial and steeped in ethical tension, as it turns sacred remnants of the Dovaa into tools of convenience or conquest.
Dovaa tears served as a secondary form of currency in Aetherealm. While not as rare or coveted as their soul-bound counterparts, they play a far greater role in Aetherealm’s economy due to their relative abundance. Unlike the elusive and sacred Dovaa souls, tears are more commonly found and easier to harvest, making them accessible to merchants, crafters, and mages alike.
Though their magical potency is significantly weaker than that of a Dovaa soul, Dovaa tears still contain a trace of draconic energy. When gathered in sufficient quantities, they can be harnessed for spells, enchantments, and power rituals. Their natural beauty has also made them highly desirable in artisan circles—often polished into shimmering gems and worn as jewelry, regarded with the same reverence as diamonds, if not more. Their value lies in both their versatility and their symbolic link to the ancient magic of the Dovaa.
Ysali
"The clan of floramancy. Using the power of plant life, herbs, and poisons to heal and deal damage to their enemies."
The Ysali clan can be found in nearly every forest across Aetherealm, often traveling in close-knit groups for safety and solidarity. As the smallest of all Dovaa clans, they rely on unity and deep-rooted connection to the earth to survive and thrive. Their bond with nature grants them powerful healing abilities and the means to manipulate the grassy plains and forest floor against their enemies.
Their primary source of magic is floramancy—the art of drawing strength from plants, blooms, and natural growth. Whether mending wounds with vines or unleashing waves of thorn-laced roots in battle, the Ysali embody the spirit of the wilds.

Ayrala
"The clan of aeromancy. Using the power of fog and air to escape combat and deal damage to their enemies."
The Ayrala clan, masters of wind and fog, dwell primarily on the continent of Aetheris. Though small in stature, their power is far greater than most realize. Their wings are the strongest among all Dovaa, granting them unmatched speed and endurance in flight. Unlike other clans that must stop to rest when traveling long distances, Ayrala Dovaa can soar across continents without pause.
Their ability to command the skies makes them formidable, though they prefer solitude and rarely leave their homeland unless necessary. Shrouded in mist and mystery, the Ayrala are often underestimated—until the wind shifts and they’re already gone.

Kiandri
"The clan of electrumancy. Using the power of electricity to energize themselves and deal damage to their enemies."
The Kiandri clan make their home among the towering mountains of Luminaris around Aetherspire, where the storm-charged skies and high altitudes suit them perfectly. Known for their mastery over lightning, Kiandri Dovaa are fierce defenders of their territory, able to summon and channel electricity with devastating precision.
Renowned as the fastest Dovaa on land, they can dart across rocky terrain in the blink of an eye, striking with the suddenness of a lightning bolt. Their speed and elemental prowess make them both elusive and deadly—forces of nature as swift as they are unrelenting.

Firani
"The clan of pyromancy. Using the power of fire, magma, and heat to deal damage and damage over time to their enemies."
The Firani clan dwell within the mountains of Aetheris, their presence as formidable as the terrain they inhabit. Towering and powerful, Firani Dovaa often live in communal groups—but many choose a solitary path, drawn to isolation by their intense nature.
Known for their volatile tempers and explosive power, they wield control over fire and molten magma with fearsome ease. In battle, they can summon waves of searing heat and hurl torrents of flame, making them one of the most destructive forces in Aetherealm. To cross a Firani is to risk being consumed by their wrath.

Peisio
"The clan of hydromancy. Using the power of water to heal and deal damage to their enemies."
The Peisio clan dwell in the deep, tranquil lakes of Aetherealm and often retreat to the vast seas that surround its continents. Graceful yet immensely powerful, these aquatic Dovaa are masters of water manipulation, able to shape tides, currents, and storms with ease.
When soaring above the ocean, their presence alone can stir the skies—summoning massive maelstroms and tempests in their wake. Few can rival their command of the sea, making the Peisio both revered and feared across coastal regions.

Aiskala
"The clan of cryomancy. Using the power of ice to negate damage and deal it to their enemies."
The Aiskala clan calls the crystalline region of Glyntvael in Luminaris their home. These regal Dovaa are easily recognized by the shimmering crystal formations that crown their heads—said to be the source of their power. Their icy crests have earned them a reputation for nobility, often regarded as the most “royal” in appearance among the Dovaa clans.
Commanding the element of ice, Aiskala Dovaa are capable of unleashing piercing frost beams or summoning blizzards with a single breath. Elegant yet formidable, they rule their domain with the quiet, merciless beauty of winter itself.

Gaili
"The clan of terramancy. Using the power of the terra to increase defense and deal damage to their enemies."
The Gaili clan are titans of stone and strength, known for their massive forms and deep connection to the rocky terra. Wielding raw tectonic power, they can summon towering stone spikes, hurl boulders with ease, and even trigger localized earthquakes. Their elemental might is unmatched in terms of sheer force.
Preferring solitude, Gaili Dovaa roam the mountainous regions scattered across all of Aetherealm, using the peaks and crags as both refuge and camouflage. While nearly invisible among the rocks, they are unmistakable when airborne—huge silhouettes casting shadows across the land. Ancient legend claims that it was the first of the Gaili who shattered Aetherealm’s landmass, breaking the realm into the distinct continents known today.

Aedaun
"The clan of solamancy. Using the power of light to heal and deal damage to their enemies."
The Aedaun clan are colossal Dovaa known for their radiant connection to the power of light. Alongside their twin clan, the Diabi, they are among the largest Dovaa in all of Aetherealm. Rare and awe-inspiring, their presence alone commands reverence.
Drawing energy from the luminous continent of Luminaris, Aedaun Dovaa absorb and store immense reserves of light before taking to the skies. Though seldom seen, encountering one is unforgettable—they are graceful in flight, but devastating in battle, unleashing beams of searing brilliance that few can endure.

Diabi
"The clan of umbramancy. Using the power of darkness to energize themselves and deal damage to their enemies."
The Diabi clan are towering Dovaa, wielders of darkness and shadow. As the twin clan to the radiant Aedaun, they are among the largest Dovaa in all of Aetherealm. Rarely seen, their immense forms are cloaked in twilight, and their presence often signals ominous change.
The Diabi draw strength from the dark and twisted energies that permeate the continent of Aetheris—especially near Vaelaris Lake—absorbing its power before taking flight. Though elusive, when encountered, they are formidable opponents—striking with precision and overwhelming force. Veiled in shadow and fueled by ancient magic, a Diabi in battle is a storm waiting to break.
