Nox is the leader of the Forgotten, his fellow umbramancers, though most only know him by another name: The Void.

He has a way of finding people—outcasts, the desperate, those chasing something just out of reach—and he draws them in with promises of power. Real power. The kind most only read about in old tomes or whisper about in fear. And once they accept, he gives them two things: a draconian-like iconic pin that marks them as his, and a glyntstone-inlaid ring. The ring is more than just a symbol—it helps trap aether and, with the right knowledge, allows them to pull it from their surroundings like second nature.

Most say he stays hidden on purpose. He avoids attention, rarely shows his face in the cities, and tends to hold his meetings in the dead of night, way out in the wilds where no one’s likely to wander.

But one thing about him never sits right with Ryder. Every time he sees him, Nox is completely obscured in an Aether Void. No detail. Just the shapes swallowed by living shadow. Ryder’s the only one who notices, the only one who can see the aether for what it is. He often wonders what it means and what secrets Nox hides.
