"Aren't you the least bit excited?" Reuben asked as the two pulled up into the parking lot of the beach.
They were invited to a Lab hosted BBQ, which Reuben took as the perfect opportunity to go out and show off Ryder to as many people as he could. It was a wonderful excuse to get the toadstool out of his room and into the open.
"Honestly? Not entirely," the raevan stated, still staring out the window.
"Okay, well just try and have fun."
Reuben wore a very basic beach outfit and was incredibly happy when Ryder decided to ditch his normal garb for a more flowing, basic top. Reuben was just incredibly happy Ryder wasn't being so..."extra" today.
The two got out of their car and made their way towards the entrance, where it was labeled "Reserved". Reuben had a huge smile on his face as he grabbed out his cooler, which contained a few vegan sandwich options for anyone attending who wished, as well as plenty of water bottles.
Ryder kept his arms crossed as he floated behind the overly chipper Reuben into the event.
To Reuben, early was on-time, on-time was late, and late is just plain unacceptable. Ryder, on the other hand, didn't care whatsoever either way. He'd have been much happier if they didn't go in the first place.
Reuben went straight to the BBQ stand when he saw Zeke. "Hey Zeke! It's so nice to see you again! How's it going? I brought these vegan sandwiches in case anyone else wanted something a little different from the norm."
Ryder on the other hand saw something interesting to him and sauntered over towards the Chimera Playpen, mainly out of curiosity. Looking inside, Ryder brightened up. "They're amazing! I've never imagined something like them before! What are you?" he questioned to himself aloud. (( Sven Beyer ----> Entrance ----> Chimera Playpen ))
There was something nerve wracking about being here. Something unsettling, but not in a quite bad way. It had been a few years ago since he had heard of the Lab, and even less time since he showed an interest, however Sven had never attended an event. Between the nerves the had grew deep within his system and the worry that, perhaps, him showing up might somehow earn him disapproval from the Lab itself (he wasn't the most graceful or well-spoken man, honestly), he had stayed far away.
However, obviously, that had changed.
The flyer that had brought him here was tucked deep within his brown jacket, his pale hands sliding over the pocket he had set it in. He swallowed thickly, eyes flicking up as he closed in at the entrance of the BBQ. Breathe in, breathe out. Relax.
The only thing was, he didn't know anyone who would be attending. That, and he was pretty early. He noticed immediately two people milling about, his stomach tightening. He might as well introduce himself right no-
Oh wait.
Instantly, Sven's head snapped to the side as he spotted the most peculiar creatures within a little playpen, his body instinctively moving towards the strange animals. He didn't notice another by the pen, even as his fingers curled around the pen's edge and body leaned forward to peer at the creatures. It wasn't until a voice emitted that his eyes ended up flicking up and then froze.
This was the first time he had ever seen a Raevan, and it showed as his eyes spotted the ribbon and sigil before flicking away to retrain themselves on the creatures. Was that.... was that what he had offered himself to, perhaps, someday care for? It was one thing hearing about the possibilities, and another to see them. It was just stunning, in a way! Magical, more so than he had realized before.
It was fair to say that the influx of Raevan's pouring in was more than a shock for Sven. He shifted his weight from one foot to another, eyes flicking from the strange creatures inside the playpen and then back to observing the other guests. So many types of wings, so many additional limbs and neat magical qualities to each. A part of him wondered what he would look like as a Raevan, even, and the thought left a crooked smirk on his face.
Turning back to the playpen, he tugged out his smart phone, snapping a quick picture of the creatures. They'd be good inspiration for the next chapter in his book, after all!

(( Samael → Entrance → BBQ Stand || Zeke/Reuben))
Ah a trip to the beach! If there was one thing that Sam seemed in tune with her reptile children about it was laying out in the sun! And the beach was a great place to do so if there wasn't a huge crowd. Sam wasn't sure how the crowd would be at the gathering for the Lab, her thoughts still turning to the soul in the bottle she'd sent in.
Shaking her head she made her way down towards the entrance carrying her blanket and a small backpack with sandwiches, though she could easily smell the delicious aroma of cooking food near by. The long haired woman wore a more sporty bathing suit as she found it far more comfortable than a one piece and not so revealing as a full bikini. As she walked towards the BBQ table she saw a familiar figure standing there.
"Reuben!" she called and waved. She'd not seen him since their camping trip and was glad to see him getting out.(( Samael → Entrance → BBQ Stand || Zeke/Reuben))(( Samael → Entrance → BBQ Stand || Zeke/Reuben))

Reuben looked around a bit when he heard his name and there she stood, the stunning woman from their hike. "Sam! Hey!" he called, opening his arms up for a hug. It had been a while since they're trip and he was excited to see a friendly face.
Then it dawned on him. She had yet to meet Ryder! "Oh my god, you haven't met Ryder yet! It's crazy how far we've come in just the last few months. He's right over there," he stated with a smile, pointing out his charge who seemed to actually be chatting with someone over by the playpen.

(( Ryder → Chimera Playpen || Sven ))
Ryder floated there silently for a moment, that was until a man approached and was awkwardly standing next to him staring into the pen. This is why he didn't like going out. He wasn't a huge fan of people in general, but this man seemed like he wasn't sure what to do. Maybe he was just an introvert like himself. At first, the frei kept his eyes on the playpen, still enthused with them, but the tension grew as the time passed.
Feeling almost obligated to speak, he did once the man took a photo. "Umm...they're cute, huh?"

((Oliver -> Entrance -> Chimera playpen because WHAT ARE THOSE?))
Well, Oliver couldn't say he was surprised that he'd been left back at the car to handle the bulk of the beach supplies, but he couldn't blame Laurel for it either. As soon as he stopped and saw his son already chattering away with a Raevan he recognized, the professor decided to let him have his time to shine and wandered off on his own with the umbrellas in tow.
Though he'd been aiming to straight to the beach and find a spot, he found himself scrutinizing one of the directional posts instead. Chimera playpen? What on earth? He squinted, turned, and headed over to check it out.
"Okay, uh..." He said, placing the umbrellas down and hovering over the pen. "I wasn't expecting to see something like this at a beach party. What in the world are these creatures?"

(( Sven Beyer // Chimera Playpen ))
Sven almost jumped when the Raevan, who had remained silent up until now, spoke. He drew his eyes back to them, noting the rainbow freckles absently. Pretty, almost like makeup. Directing his attention to the topic at hand, Sven nodded, clearing his throat.
"Yeah." He agreed softly, looking at the picture he just took. "Never seen them before." He added as an afterthought, lifting the camera to take a second picture.
Like the other, he struggled trying to find the words to continue the conversation. While normally a warm and friendly man, it didn't mean he was good at speaking, especially when in a situation where he was surrounded by awe and splendor. He opened his mouth to stumble through anything to say, feeling the same obligation the Raevan felt, until a new voice cut through the silence. His eyes slid to view another man, like him, approach, setting umbrellas down. He released an agreeable hum in response, shoulders softly shrugging.
"I don't know." He admitted. "I was hoping one of you might, actually." A faint, tired smile touched the writers face as he scratched his cheek, laughing softly as he watched the creatures play. Cute.

(( Fisher & Pohl -> Chimera Playpen ))
Pohl was floating fairly slowly for a change, mostly because his fists were full of sand and the sensation was quite distracting. He might have been barely smiling as he approached the growing crowd, but his eyes were full of curious wonder when he scanned the people and raevans present, unsurprised to find that he only knew Zeke. Though he had met many humans in his short time as a conscious being, only two of them had been associated with the Lab. He wanted to introduce himself to everybody, though he couldn't decide who to approach first. Luckily, that decision was more easily made when he saw the chimeras. Pohl dropped his sand and darted forward, reaching for the octopuss first. It didn't look pleased.
"Pohl." Fisher trotted up behind the raevan, plopping his bags at his feet before reaching out and resting his hand on his charge's shoulder.
"Fisher." Pohl's tone matched his guardian's perfectly, though Fish was trying for 'authoritative parent' while Pohl was clearly just amusing himself. Still, he straightened and hovered away from the half-cat creature, the breeze generated by his fluttering wings ruffling Fisher's hair. Pohl knew that cat things didn't like him much, but that didn't mean he wanted to touch them any less.
"Do you want to find a spot to put the umbrella?" Fisher asked, bending to pick up the bags again.
"Can I say hello?" Pohl asked, not waiting for an answer before he offered a measured wave and a soft, "Hello. Hello. Hello." to those nearby. Introductions. He had mastered them. Wide eyes lingered on Ryder for another second, then darted back to the chimeras.
Shaking his head slightly at the raevan's antics and tentative understanding of, well, everything, Fisher grinned at those Pohl had hello'd and added, "I'm Fisher and this is Pohl. He's new. It's nice to meet you all."

(( Isobel -> Chimera Playpen.
Axel -> On her way to the BBQ table. ))
“It’s been a while hasn’t it?” Axel said as she glanced over to Isobel as she drove.
“It has,” she said softly keeping her eyes out on the water. Isobel was nervous to see other raevans again but mostly she didn’t do very well with water. So the idea of a whole ocean didn’t exactly make her feel good.
Axel glanced at Isobel one more time before leaning on her hand. They really out to be doing more of these things, it would be good for her to meet others. Axel felt partially responsible since Iso couldn’t exactly go anywhere without her and Axel had been a lot more preoccupied than usual. Her mood did lighten when she turned into the parking lot and parked the car, Axel grabbed her hat and put it on her head before heading out.
Axel was wearing a navy blue v-neck maxi dress with floral print and her bathing suit under it. Isobel wore a cute light pink top which exposed her shoulders and her hair was down in soft waves.
Isobel floated out and followed after Axel, her eyes moved around to the people already here and briefly wondered if they were late. Still, there were a couple of people she did not know and lots of new raevans. Still she wished there was at least one that she knew, it would have made introductions to the others a lot easier. Axel bumped Isobel forward a bit.
“Don’t be shy,” she whispered quietly. "I’m going to go say hi to Zeke.”
“Oh wait I’ll come with,” Isobel turned to follow Axel but the guardian pushed her towards the pens.
“Isobel, go make friends.” And with that the guardian left headed towards the food tables.
Seeing a group next to the Chimera pens Isobel floated over to those there. Who didn’t want to see the cute animals right? So Isobel slowly floated over arriving just in time to hear the introduction of Pohl. This was a good time right?
"Hi Pohl, Fisher. Nice to meet you too.” Isobel briefly wondered how old the other raevans were. “I’m Isobel, nice to meet all of you.”

Well, if that's what Sven was hoping for, it could be a while before he found anyone that knew. Oliver arched his brow, but seemed to resign to ignorance after a moment of thought and turned to pick up the umbrellas again. However, just as he turned, more people arrived.
"Hello! Gorgeous weather isn't it?" He greeted, his gaze moving between Fisher, Pohl, and Isobel. He wasn't entirely sure who to address first, but a second look at Isobel made him pause. "I think I've met you before, with your guardian! It was quite a few years ago, do you recognize me?"

(( Sven Beyer // Chimera Playpen ))
Sven internally felt a tiny twitch in his chest when the original man he spoke to lifted his umbrella's to leave. 'This is why you don't talk, it irritates people', the anxious part of him hissed. Luckily, something drew his attention from the conversation and his own worries, head snapping to see two new introductions, Fisher and Pohl. His eyes locked on Pohl, eyes briefly widening. Another Raevan.
Would he have a child like this, too?
The thought wasn't a nervous one this time, not when he could see people who were successfully raising such magical children. Instead, it illuminated a tired but warm smile as he greeted the two with a gentle head nod.
"I'm Sven, hello." He returned their greeting, turning his body from the playpen. Fisher had said the younger Pohl was new, did that mean newly formed? Plenty of questions buzzed in his head, instantly smothered by the need to not be rude. Damn. Another figure joined - another Raevan - and Sven felt that nervous flicker in his stomach. He wasn't always an anxious sort, but when it came to this? This world that he had been so interested in but yet hesitant to truly trust himself to join? This was nerve wracking. Luckily, he had a good face to play off his nerves.
"Sven, pleasure to meet everyone, too." He repeated his name for the new guest, shoulders relaxing slowly. "I must admit, this is my first time at a Lab event." He admitted softly, curling a loose lock around his finger as he bit back the almost desperate urge to grab his notebook and start jotting down notes. Writers block be damned, all he needed was one of these parties it seemed to devour the demon that had seized his work.

Ryder continued to float there, when so many people began to arrive at the play pen, all he could do was quietly continue to float. He didn't feel comfortable really being apart of a huge group of people. But he knew that he needed to be more social. Reuben would kill him if he just walked away from such an opportunity.
"H-hello everyone. My name is Ryder," he stated quickly and rather quietly. "It's nice to meet you all."
His face began to turn beat red, and he could sense Alice creeping up. But he kept her hidden for now. He had to deal with social situations on his own; Reuben and him had talked about working on being more outgoing. Oh how he hated it.

"Isobel!" Pohl said, holding out a hand for the raevan to shake, but wibbling and retracting it when the first weather human addressed her. He floated closer to the other human, still holding out his hand. "Sven. I have been to the Lab before, but I have never been to the beach. Is it fun?"
Fisher looked as though he wanted to stop Pohl from making a nuisance of himself, but the man appeared to come to terms with it after a thought, shrugging slightly and smiling at those gathered nearby. "I'll be right back. Yell if he wanders off." And then he ducked away with his bag, hurrying over to bring a box of cookies to the food table.

“Oh yes! The hedge!” Isobel paused briefly trying to recall his name. “Oliver right? It’s good to see you again.” She gave him a small smile before pointing at Axel. “Axel is over there, I’m sure she’ll say hello later on.”
“Are you enjoying yourself Sven?” So this was a possible guardian or a soon to be guardian! She’d have to wait a bit to ask him. They were quite the little group now and she didn’t want to miss anybody.
She gave Ryder a smile and a small wave before taking the extended hand from Pohl and shaking it lightly. He looked like a young Raevan and her thoughts were correct when his guardian went off and spoke about him wandering off.
“So Sven, are you a guardian to be or are you perhaps waiting on your raevan to be born?” She was quite curious indeed about future guardians who came to events to meet the others. Axel had been one of them at some point after all.

“So Sven, are you a guardian to be or are you perhaps waiting on your raevan to be born?” She was quite curious indeed about future guardians who came to events to meet the others. Axel had been one of them at some point after all.
((LuLu -> Dessert Table -> Chimera Playpen ))
LuLu chuckled at the cheetahs response. It was a pretty solid answer. Plenty of hugs certainly did the body good. She smiled softly at the human's comment. Though Daina meant it as a joke, it was hard to make light of some of the poor decisions she had made in the past. Regardless, the sigel felt she had at least learned from most of them. "Terror is one way to put it." Her soft smile turned a bit mischievous. "I am still working on it."
The rabbit watched as Laurel wished them goodbye and hurried off to pounce on his next victim. She finished off the last bite of her cake and felt it was about time for her to do the same. After all, there was still a whole beach to explore! "Thank you Diana. Hope to see you again." The sigel floated on and tossed her paper plate away in a nearby bin.
The rabbit spotted the assortment of BBQ on display and the pungent smell caught her nose. Her nostrils flared and she could not help but hold a hand over her face as she passed it by. The next area she spotted was a small fenced in plot of sand. A handful of adorable little creatures were bouncing around inside. The girl paused and commented. "Adorable!"

He nodded at each introduction, putting each name delicately into their own folder. His eyes flicked to Pohl as the Raevan approached, noting the hand extended to him and taking it, giving it a firm handshake, followed by a smile.
"It can be." He answered, tilting his head towards the sand."I come here usually to collect sea shells to string up on the walls of my office." He noted Fisher's call, nodding faintly in acknowledgement.
His attention drifted to Isobel, releasing a soft chuckle in response. "I am indeed, yes." And it was true, the company was enjoyable and the faint chatter of those within the area soothed him. It was better than holing himself up within his house, which he had been doing for the past few weeks as he stared listlessly at an empty page. His editor was right, going to this event was doing something positive in the end.
He laughed faintly as Isobel questioned if he was a guardian, head shaking sheepishly. Not quite yet, but perhaps soon!
"I'm not a guardian, no, but I've sent in my interest to be." He paused for a second, deciding to finally unleash the question he had been holding onto. "Do you.... have any advice for someone looking to be a guardian? I've never...." He trailed off as he reached for the words. "I've never met a Raevan or their parent until today."
He briefly glanced as a rabbit-eared Raevan bounced over, giving an agreeable nod. The creatures were absolutely strange, but adorable as well!

Sam laughed and wrapped the skinny man in a strong hug. Her skin was already warm from the sun, soaking up the rays as usual. The man seemed quite happy and looked far more relaxed than when they first met. Hopefully he was taking relaxing time. "It's wonderful to see you again!"
Then the man told her his Raevan had arrived, her eyes widening in excitement. She remembered his lament over the soul but was glad he seemed to be so excited. Following his finger she looked over at the pale mushroom boy, cocking her head as she examined him. "Gosh Reuben! He's so colorful! Even his freckles look multicolored!" she smiled a the man. "Congrats, you will have to tell me about care and such so I'll be more prepared when mine arrives."
She moved to grab a plate, wanting a little nibble for now. It was then she noticed all the Raevans arriving for the event. Sam thought there would be more there, after all she'd only met Dior. They were all so different, not one looking similar. Physically they all seemed to have ribbons, even those with more of an upper body. It was so fascinating. Looking back to Reuben she smiled, "So what else have you been up to? Business good?"

He might have been about to proclaim sea shell collection a grand and interesting hobby and float off to try it for himself when LuLu approached, outshining just about everything Pohl had seen today. She had a body, or most of one at least, and her ears looked very soft.
"May I touch?" He reached for her head.
Had Fisher still been nearby, he would have told Sven that his best advice was to be ready for anything.

LuLu's attention was caught by a small voice. She looked at Pohl and smiled. He looked to be fairly fresh out of the tank, but he was certainly sweet and had enough manners to ask before he touched. She nodded. "Ah, sure." Her fluffy ears perked forward for him to touch. Perhaps, the petting zoo had not been enough for the boy? "Just be gentle."
After a moment she inquired, "What is your name?"

Reuben was quite happy with the day's events. Sam was here, and all was well. He watched as more and more raevan and their guardians arrived.
"It's great to see you, too! And thank you so much. He's amazing; even though he's a little shy...and a bit awkward. But I wouldn't have him any other way. It's already been about three and a half months since he was born. Business has been great, though. Not a lot of new things happening over all. What about for you?" he questioned with a smile, staring at his charge as he interacted with a few people here and there. He was just happy to be there, and that Ryder was actually getting to know some new people.
Reuben took a moment to listen to the woman and continue looking around. "Of course, whenever you want to know anything, just ask! Obviously, I'm still new to this whole parenting thing; but I've loved getting to know him. He's like an actual person already. One thing I must say is that raevan learn very quickly. He's already reading novels and things as well as having a strangely strong grasp on the English language. It's crazy."
It was then that he heard Dani call for more players. A large grin grew upon his face. This was his opportunity to get Ryder into the fray! Turning his attention back to Samael, he asked, "Would you be down to play? I don't know if you've ever met Dani, but she's trying to get a game going. If you're down, we should totally join! I'll go grab Ryder and head out there!"

As more and more people encroached upon him, the frei became more and more uncomfortable. Oh how he already wished to go home. Why did Reuben bring him here? He could feel the tugging of Alice on his mind; begging to come out and play. Ryder couldn't help but keep her hidden; at least for now. There was no need to unleash her. He had promised Reuben he'd try and control her as best he could.
Reuben began to approach and inside, Ryder felt relief.
"Hello everyone! I'm Reuben, Ryder's guardian!" he began with a large smile, adjusting his glasses on his face and noticing a friendly face in Fisher out of the bunch. "Hello there, stranger! How've you been?" he asked with a smirk, holding out his hand to him and then to the others in the area.
As quick as he had jogged over, he was ready to head on out to the beach. But before he did anything, the tarotist looked into the playpen with shock. "What on earth are these things?" he muttered under his breath.
Ryder followed suit by eyeing the pen once more, his face becoming more and more red by the minute.
"Hey, Ryder, come join me. Lets go play on the beach, alright? I'm going to play some beach volleyball with Dani; remember her?" he said, pointing out Dani in the crowd of people.
The frei followed his guardian's finger and simply nodded. Anything would be better than being around all of these strangers right now. He just felt so out of place. The only one he knew was LuLu, and though she was nice, he just didn't feel comfortable speaking up when she was offering her ears to this other frei to touch. She had offered that to him upon their last meeting at the ice cream shop, but he still hadn't even taken the time to perfect his powers.
"It...was nice meeting you all," the frei uttered awkwardly before floating off behind his guardian. At least Dani had offered to make a book club meeting; he liked that a bit.
With that, the two began to make their way towards the beach.

He smiled—with teeth!—and reached out to gently run his fingers along the edge of one of LuLu's ears, folding his hands once he was done.
"I am Pohl Gridell. It's very nice to—"
His head whipped toward where Dani was shouting, wings fluttering faster at the sudden excitement. "Beach volleyball," he said quietly. Pohl pushed the two concepts together in his mind, nodding at the result. It sounded like fun, but at the same time, completely not for him.
"Are you going to play?"

Having dropped off the snacks he had brought, Fisher made his way back to the chimeras just in time to catch Reuben as he angled for the beach.
"Hey, long time no see! I'm doing well." He shook the other man's hand. "We should meet up sometime. Introduce the raevans." Had he known Ryder was Reuben's, he would have tried to get Pohl to stop being weird for five minutes. As they wandered away to play volleyball, Fisher waved, then turned his attention back to his charge. It seemed like everything was all right for now, but he was prepared to step in if things got weird.

(( Dani → Beach | BEACH BALL BABES! Feel free to jump in whenever guys, even if you aren't tagged. C: ))
To Dani's immense satisfaction, people began to approach for a game without any more prompting. With Nell taking care of the height portion of getting the net set up (and profuse thanks on Dani's part for that) and Dani focusing on getting the beach ball inflated, it didn't take long at all for them to be ready to play.
She was delighted to see that a pair of people approaching were familiar to her, and turning to Nell, tossed her the inflated beach ball. "You're captain of the other team! I'll be right back, okay?"
Reuben and Ryder were coming over anyway, so it wasn't like she'd have far to go. Crossing to her beach bag, she crouched down and dug around until she got to the bottom, pulling a well-loved copy of The Princess Bride from underneath her beach towel and leaving it on top. She was about to take it over to them, but decided that it was better to give that to Ryder at the end of the day -- she had the idea he'd settle down to start reading it if she gave him a chance, and instead, shrugged off her floral print and folded it carefully to hide the book.
"Ryder, Reuben! I'm glad to see you." Jogging over, Dani grinned at them both, eyebrows raised. "Are you going to play beach ball with us? I hope so," she added, glancing between the two of them as though making a very serious choice. "Because I totally want you on my team, Ryder."
She remembered what Reuben had said about socialization being a work in progress for Ryder, and fisted her hands on her hips, nodding decisively. "What do you think? Want to partner up for a game?"

((Adrian - Beach > Volleyball Group // Delia - Beach w/Aadi & Dair))
At all the commotion going on nearby, Adrian couldn't help but look up from his napping position and peek those baby blues out from under his sunglasses. Somewhat intrigued, the Brit replaced his glasses and stood to his full height of 6'1" and gave a good stretch before sauntering over. He wasn't really familiar with most present, but the elder gent definitely wasn't the shy type, especially around the ladies. Seeing as one had trotted off to greet another, one of whom he did recognize and managed a smile and wave to Reuben (was that his Raevan?), Adrian took a spot next to Nell.
Flashing a smile and giving a slight bow, he greeted the dark and fit woman. "Wonderful weather we're having today. I'm Adrian Shade, Cordelia's grandfather and acting guardian." He pointed towards the smokey girl not too far off in the distance. "And you are?"
Cordelia nodded about the pains of sunburn. Although she had never experienced it herself, she had seen the aftermath of it on others and no one ever looked happy about it, so she hoped that if she kept up with the sunscreen she'd be fine. At Dair's question, the snake gave a thoughtful look before settling on a mischievous grin. "Well...I just go...POOF!" And with that the girl's form burst into smoke momentarily before quickly reforming on the other side of Aadi. In a fit of smokey laughter, Delia had to lean on the peacock Frei slight for a moment. "Oh man, you should have seen the look on your guy's faces. Priceless."
After another moment of happy snickering, the Basilisk composed herself. "Seriously though, something like that does happen and I lose all my energy. Just like sunburn, it is also not fun. So I tend to stay clear of large bodies of water as much as possible." Giving Aadi a pat on his shoulder, "So unfortunately I can't go in the water with you, but I can watch. And I think your guardian is just being overprotective. I've heard and seen lots of Raevans go swimming before and nothing's happened to them. Well unless you're like me, but that's a rare case." She gave a big smile of encouragement and winked playfully, "Though a floaty donut couldn't hurt."

It was then that he noticed Adrian, the man with the troubled frei. "Adrian! Hey! How're you doing?! How's Delia holding up? Any word from your daughter?" he questioned as he approached, offering the man a hand.
Turning his attention to Nell who was nearby, he smiled. "Hello, I'm Reuben. I don't think we've met," he stated with an outstretched hand.

I'm willing to give it a shot though," he admitted awkwardly, more-so because he didn't want to be rude to this nice woman who was offering to discuss books with him in the future; but also because he promised Reuben he'd try and have fun and be more "outgoing" -- whatever that meant. Though in all honesty, he just wanted to go sit in the corner and read. He didn't care for the heat, the sun, or anything that was really going on right now...but he couldn't tell anyone that.

Nell returned Adrian's smile and attempted a small curtsy, before pointing to the same spot that he had, albeit a few inches to the side. "Sure is! Glad it didn't decide to rain today! I'm Nell, I try to keep track of Dair over there. Thinking of joining in the game?" There was a bit of a twinkle in her eye when she caught the ball, a hint of a competitive side she usually tried to keep hidden peeking out.
"Nice to meet you all! I'm Nell, I'll have to pull Dair over here later for a proper introduction, yeah?" She beamed at both Reuben and Ryder, tucking the ball under an arm while she returned his handshake. "And I'm sure you'll do great!"
Nell returned Adrian's smile and attempted a small curtsy, before pointing to the same spot that he had, albeit a few inches to the side. "Sure is! Glad it didn't decide to rain today! I'm Nell, I try to keep track of Dair over there. Thinking of joining in the game?" ((Adrian - Beach Volleyball // Cordelia - Beach w/Aadi & Dair))
Adrian couldn't help an amused smile that graced his slightly aged features when Nell gave a curtsy in return to his own bow. Already he could tell he would enjoy her company immensely. At the mention of her own Raevan, the Brit followed her gesture towards the other darkly clad Frei Cordelia was interacting with. Ah, how serendipitous that they would be meeting one another for the first time just as their charges were as well. "Guilty, I was somewhat tempted. Don't let the grey hairs fool you, I move a lot faster than one would think."
At Reuben's approach, he accepted the younger man's hand and gave it a firm shake. "Mister Rothmore, a pleasure to make your acquaintance once again. Cordelia and I are doing well for the most part, thank you. Keeping busy with a new venture, our very own shop to be precise." Adrian's happy expression fell for a moment at the mention of his daughter. "Ah, yes, Ebony is still missing unfortunately. But, the police have found a lead. Someone matching her description was seen wondering the woods about the time she'd disappeared. So I have great hope this will lead to her being located finally."
To the introduction of Reuben's own Raevan, Adrian brightened again and looked the mushroom boy over. He really had to suppress the want to make a fungi/fun guy joke then, cause obviously that was too much a dad joke even for him. If only Ebony had been there to scold him with a look. Alas, "He is not exactly how I had imagined, but I suppose they never are. Nonetheless, he seems wonderful. Congratulations!"
With a shrug, "Nah, I wouldn't say that. I'm sure you'll both tire of me soon enough Aadi. Oh, I hope it's okay that I call you that?" Though Cordelia was trying to act humble, she couldn't help wanting to show off a bit for these younger Freis. She wanted them to like her, needed them to. She was a lot lonelier than she cared to admit, even to herself.
It wasn't until then that she noticed that Dair seemed a bit...preoccupied? His gaze kept wandering towards the sea. Was there something out there in the ocean? Squinting and looking out beyond the hot sand, the Basilisk couldn't make out anything of interest. Only boring old water as far as the eye could see. She would have asked what he was looking at if she hadn't been side tracked by Aadhira's gentle pat and question.
"Uh well, let's see..." the snake quickly searched the surrounding areas for something that the colorful peacock could borrow. Since she couldn't go in the water, neither her nor Adrian had bothered packing any sort of floatation devices. Otherwise she would have just let him borrow one. The sight of a group of humans (her granddad being part of them) and a beach ball sparked another bout of mischievous grinning from her dark lips. No...she couldn't...could she? She really shouldn't be a bad example for these younger Raevans and yet...where was the fun in that?
Pointing towards Nell, Dair's guardian unbeknownst to her, Cordelia asked slyly, "How about a beach ball?"

(( Samael → BBQ Stand → Beach || Reuben /Dani + Others ))
Sam listened to the way Reuben talked about Ryder, smiling in a knowing way. She knew this speech, she often spoke of her chargers like this. It always exciting to have a new creature to take care of and these Raevans were no different. As more appeared she marveled at how they all looked so different, each displaying some traits of the soul they were given and the essence. It made her think as to what her child would one day look like. At his question she smiled, "Oh it's been a hoot. One of the possums had her babies so we've got little fuzz balls climbing all over her at the moment. Poor mama, she just waddles about with about ten babies attached to her."
At his question about Volleyball she nodded and smiled, following him down to the beach. "Oh sure! Love a good game! Should be quite fun!" she grinned as she reached into her ever present backpack and pulled out some leather straps to pull her hair back and tie it down. "Must tame this mess first, otherwise I'll trip over it."
As the walked Reuben seemed to meet some other people, introducing Ryder to them. She looked at the Frei now that he was closer, marveling at his appearance and his ability to....fly?.....float? She couldn't tell really. His coloring was amazing, something she'd only ever seen in rainbows by a waterfall. It took a few minutes but she finally managed to pull her tail into a manageable tie. "Alright, ready for sand diving!" she chuckled. "Also hello to you Ryder, I'm Sam."

(( Sven Beyer // Volleyball Beach! ))
As a few introduced themselves Sven realized that, hey, names were a thing.
"Ah, I'm Sven. Sven Beyer." He raised his hand to give a small, sheepish wave, immediately sticking his hands back into his pockets, shoulders drawing up and a leg bending as he listened to the ongoing's. His phone buzzed softly in his pocket and he reached for it, giving it a quick once over. Of course, his editor. Whistling faintly to himself, he tossed the offending phone into one of his discarded shoes. That could wait. Probably. Maybe.

(( Pohl & Fisher | Chimera Playpen -> Beach ))
Following LuLu's urging, Pohl had ever so briefly angled toward the volleyball game, but he hadn't stayed to play. Instead he had floated back to his guardian's side, vaguely overwhelmed by the sights and sounds of the barbecue and the beach. Confronted by so many things to see and people to meet, Pohl hadn't known where to go next, given the absence of small animals to demand his immediate attention.
"Do you want to build something?"
With his wide eyes still trained on the clusters of guests, Pohl nodded shallowly, trailing after his own arm as Fisher tugged him across the sand. He came back to himself as a cool line of white goo snaked down his arm.
"Rub it in so you don't burn."
"Burn?" Pohl sounded faintly alarmed.
"Not like the stove, don't worry. It's called sunscreen. Sun tan lotion."
Pohl began to rub as instructed, nodding as he did. Once he got over the initial shock of the chill, he found he quite liked this sunscreensuntanlotion. It smelled like protection, a feeling that only intensified when Fisher slathered his face with it as well. The slimy layer was less pleasant there, but once he got his fingertips and palms clear of the stuff, it grew far more bearable.
"What are we building?" Pohl asked, watching as his guardian got settled.
"A castle."
"Big enough to live in?"
Fisher chuckled. "Not this time. But maybe someday we can try making a bigger one out of more permanent stuff."
Pohl considered this quietly, unmoving save for the buzz of his wings. Eventually he nodded, floating lower to examine the pails and small shovels that Fish had unearthed from his bag.
"You fill a bucket with water and use it to wet the sand. Then you mold the sand in another bucket, turn the molded sand over after it's had time to set, and stack the bucket-shaped sand things on top of each other." He chuckled again at Pohl's obvious confusion. "Come on. I'll show you."
