The Pandemic
January to April 2020

The last three months had been a whirlwind. So many things had happened to not only the Rothmore family, but the world.
January
The beginning of the year was full of hope for the Rothmores. Ryder had, just months earlier, defeated Erryd. Reuben had hired Giselle and she had even met Ryder. Things were fresh in 2020, a new decade full of hope and prosperity. Reuben had already planned to have the secondary studio in the back of the lot built, people were coming out daily to ready the land and lay the foundation for the new place. It didn’t take long for things to start going awry, however.
February
During the month of February, Reuben noticed supply chain issues, not only for the addition on the lot, but also his supply for items for his shop, the Mystic Herb. This frustrated the guardian to no end. It was still a long time before the house would be complete it seemed. Business began to slow and the studio building halted altogether due to all these changes. Even things for Evan had slowed at the Silver Fox, as people had stopped going out publicly and tourism slowed.
March
The spring was settling in and it was normally during this time that the entire family would have celebrated Ryder’s third birthday on this plane. However, it was also during this same month that the world descended into chaos with what has become known across the globe as “The Pandemic”. Thankfully, residents weren’t nearly as affected as the rest of the world, being a much more magical place, the remedies and magical arts of healing were much more effective than even modern medicine had been. There were specialized healers available that could visit to be cured. The government shut down travel for this very reason.
Due to the pandemic craziness, Ryder’s birthday had quickly come and gone, and he only had celebrated very briefly with Reuben and Evan. Presents from friends and other members of his raevan family were received as well, so he did feel appreciated during this time, however that was also when the lockdowns began and worsened before getting better.
Tourism slowed a lot, and supply issues continued to last, but the world would soon prevail.
As April neared, there was still no estimate on the finishing of the studio. Reuben had hoped to have it complete by the end of April, able to begin renting it out or setting it up as an Air BNB to travelers by early May. However, the pandemic had other plans for the tarotist. The builders had put everything on hold and the only thing that was completed on the lot was the foundation and some very basic framing.
They lived next to the goddamn forest for god’s sake, and they couldn’t get wood? Reuben’s turmoil over the whole ordeal increased day after day that nothing was getting done. However, he continued to meditate and start his day with his readings as always, and knew that even though he was experiencing all this frustration, everything would be okay. Patience was a virtue after all.
