The Scribbled Pages
October 5, 2018

Whist cleaning up Ryder's room, Reuben found a grand book just under the bed. The first few pages were scribbled out with a lot of black ink, but as he made his way further through the pages, he realized this was actually Ryder’s journal. He noticed that with each page, the handwriting got better and better. The first few pages were illegible completely. But by the end, it looked decent enough to make out what was being written anyway.
Reuben found himself sitting on the bed, reading the latest journal entry.

I cannot believe how things have changed since the start of this year. The entirety of it has baffled me. So much has been on my mind.
Evan moved into our home in late August after he and Reuben declared their love and pronounced each other 'boyfriends'. I like Evan, after all, he has been a very dear friend to me over the course of our relationship. The fact that he and Reuben are together has made Reuben very happy, that much I can sense. I hope their happiness continues to flourish.
The biggest change for me personally has occurred over the last few months. I have realized that the video game I was given on the celebration of my birth is not a decent substitute to having Alice and not being able to utilize my powers fully any longer. I must change my ways and not obsess over such trivial matters; instead, I must look to the future and see what that holds. I just know that gaming is not going to fix any of my problems. Erryd will still rear his ugly head, that much I know for certain. I just hope that my powers will come back to me soon enough. For now, I must keep determined and my concentration fully on my future.
Sincerely,
Ryder
"Hello Reuben, still yet cleaning?"
Reuben looked up from pretending to dust. "Oh welcome home! Yep, still cleaning. How was the store?" His heart was filled with joy because of how Ryder described his and Evan's relationship. He couldn't help but feel happy knowing the true thoughts of his charge.
"The trek was decent, nothing of note to speak of." Ryder stated, floating into the room and sitting down at his computer. "May I have another hour to enjoy the game?"
Reuben chuckled. Ryder had been so diligent in his timeframes and he hadn't ever exceeded them, so Reuben saw no harm in another hour of playtime for the boy. "Of course, just be sure to head to bed soon after, okay? Have a wonderful night."
"Same to you, thank you."
